how can he claim hes dependent?

2006-10-31 15:06:16 · 2 answers · asked by Amanda C 1 in Education & Reference Higher Education (University +)

it is very controlling, his mom wont teach him how to cook, clean, laundry or anything and he has asked her numerous times to, and she yells at him. She wants him to go to school where he wants to go even though it will make him unhappy to go where she wants him to. She says that he is ruining the family for not being a notre dame fan, when he has nothing against them and basically controls everything.

If your boyfriend wants to go to a different college than his parents want, then he should just do it. He should get a job and apply for college loans so he won't have to rely on his parents to pay for his college. When my husband attended college, he paid for everything with loans and scholarships, and his parents didn’t have to pay a dime. If he gets a loan for more than the tuition costs, then he can keep the rest of the money and use it to pay for rent, food, books, etc.

When he moves out of the household, he is NO LONGER a dependent -- especially if he designates on his tax return his status as INDEPENDENT Adult --

Which means:

NO MORE MONEY from Parents
NO MORE on the Parents' Health, Hospitalization, Dental, Medical Insurance Policies
NO MORE do the parents pay for his College Costs
NO MORE are they required to pay for the food he eats, the utilities he uses, the place he lives
NO MORE are the parents going to provide for his clothing, shoes, or luxuries ...

IN OTHER WORDS -- if he has a job and has the ability to pay for everything on his own -- THEN HE CAN MOVE OUT of the parent's house, and get his own place, and DO WHAT HE WANTS ...

UNTIL that time happens -- he needs to RESPECT his PARENT's Home, their Rules, and TREAT Them honorably and NOT be abusive to them or treat them horribly in any way.
