It is every citizens responsibility to have their paperwork in order. Do you expect the government to do everything for you? If you try to get a credit card you have to have proper ID. Same with voting. Get your stuff together.

I don't know where you live but all you have to do is show your voters ID card and you will be allowed to vote. If you don't have anything at all then I guess you are out of luck. That's a good thing by the way. If there was no verification at all then people could bring in a bus full of paid imposters to vote for a specific person and claim they were registered voters.

Our country does need tighter control over voter fraud. The states should pass minimum ID requirements and then help those who can't afford to produce said ID. Some elections are won or lost by one or two votes. Those votes shouldn't be supplied by fraudulent voters.

Your case is unfortunate.

However, look at it from the point of the elections people.

How do they know that you are actually the person registered to vote?

If you're on Federal disability, getting a new SS card should be easy & cheap. Getting a new birth certificate usually isn't that much either.

That doesn't help with the time crunch before the election. Try going to the election office in person and explaining your situation.
There might be some way for them to be assured that you're who you say you are and let you vote.

The laws that passed addressed the issue of affording ID. We have to have some standard of people voting. You have to show ID to fly on a plane, drive, get a passport, open a bank account. If they cannot afford $50, then they do not deserve to vote.

What is wrong with this picture is people who do not understand that this issue is not a reasonable one.

You are completely wrong. Anyone can get a photo ID
at their local License Bureau free. I think they will even
come to your house if you can't get there. If you would
have voted "absentee", you would not have even needed
a photo ID. You just need to brush up on voting procedures.
Low Income has not got one thing to do with right to vote.
In the past, there have been dead people vote (I don't think
they were eligible), 5600 felons voted in Florida, and 1135
felons voted Democratic in N. Carolina. It's not the machines
or the ID's that's wrong.......it's the people who try to cheat
the system.

i am sure that you know of at least 5 people you can borrow 5 bucks from. that equals 25. you can get a new drivers license and or a new birth certificate with that. let me see did you have a state id or driver's license? I find it hard to believe your entire story because you can pay for internet!! you have a computer! so you have the means to replace your documents. Or your priorities are screwed up and while it is your right to vote it doesn't mean that you deserve to vote. If you loved your country you would want to make sure that only those that have the right to vote are the ones voting. you wouldn't want it made easy for fraudulent voters to interfere with our political process.

You need to have ID to avoid voting fraud. They need proof of who you are and what voting district you are in. ID's really are not hard to get and most people do have them regardless of their income. Your situation is unfortunate, but again, there would be so much fraud if anyone could go vote with out proof of ID.

Kinda looks suspicious .. all your id's burnt up and your computer made it? I'm sure if you were really assertive and interested in acquiring these proper documents you would have already. Good luck in the future ... hopefully you will be able to vote by 2008.

Poor people don't exist in a Republican democracy. In some states you don't need I.D.'s. In others, the Republicans instituted laws requiring them. Vote the Republicans out!

They're lying. There are years between elections, and lots of gov't help in getting id's etc.
Some are too lazy to apply, and blame the gov't for not picking them up to go.
Frankly, I'm not sure I even want them to vote...... :-)
