Your right!
When I was a kid,a pillow case was used to bring home all the candy and treats I knew I was going to get. I still tell my Kids and Grandkids, how it "use to be". It was the mother's who took kids "Trick-o-Treating". Now,because of all the mayhem, that's been going on in this generation, you see more fathers out with their kids, and it's very hard to trust innocent-looking people. Folks are afraid to open their doors, for fear of getting robbed. It's a shame that our kids are growing up in fear of things that use to be "Fun" to do.

Parents nowadays choose to take their kids to the local malls and carnivals which are considered to be "safer" than going door to door. When I was a kid 20 yrs ago, everyone went trick or treating door to door in addition to the malls and carnivals. I haven't seen anyone do that anywhere in the last 15 yrs at least. The neighborhood where I currently live is overflowing with kids but they go to the malls instead.

Depends on where you live, people tell me about 100+ swing by their houses, maybe 20 or so kids came to my house, but it does seem that hardly anyone goes out trick or treating, plus you see now the parent waiting in the car while their kids goes to ring the doorbell and then they drive off. but it's been sparse for many years around my neighborhood on Halloween (5+yrs?)

A few bad people, ruined it for everyone.
Too many alternatives to door to door trick or treating.
What's sad is the elderly folks LOVE to see the kids all dressed up! Some of them live for this night.

Maybe not in your neck of the woods. We spent over 150 dollars on candy, and ended up turning off the lights just after 6:30 because we were out!

We had a lot in our neighborhood. We went out as a family to take our four and five-year-old around the block. One woman early on had run out of candy and felt so bad. Hey, we didn't care about that. It was a good chance to give her a hug and say hi. That's what the night is about for us anyway--being able to greet the neighbors. Lots of fun.

I know what you mean. Only 2 groups of people came to my door. I hope this isn't a trend. I would like to see people continue to enjoy Halloween.

it happens when the neighborhood gentrifies..no more small kids, but the folks living there havent moved away for the younger generation that has the small kids to move in...that will change as the folks get older and die out...sad but true.
