this has to do with a expression and variable math question . this is the problem i need to write . the directions to the question is. WRITE A EXPRESSION. CHOOSE A VARIABLE FOR THE UNKNOWN. Karen had 30 problems to do for homework. She did some before dinner and 21 after dinner ?

30= x + 21

x is the unknown because the problem leaves you not knowing how many problems she did before dinner.

If you take the unknown variable as "x" then the expression would be x+21=30.You are at liberty to choose any variablelike a.b.p.q or y .in each of the cases change the variable from the above expression and you get your answer like a+21=30 or b+21=30 or p+21=30 and so on

30 problems = some problems + 21 problems
just rename some to x
30 problems = x problems + 21 problems
30 = x + 21 or 30 - 21 = x

Let x be the number done before dinner.

x + 21 = 30

She did (some before dinner) and (21 after dinner)
..........................x.................. +......... 21............ = 30
x + 21 = 30
