Sure aliens have been here. Why not?
Military covering it? Hmmmm. I don't think they could. SOMEONE would leak it to the Nat'l Enquirer for $50,000. You know that's true.
And robtheman? Fine theory but it's got holes. First, any space-faring civilization would be much more technical then we are currently. They could do a lot more with bending spacetime then we can even imagine.
Wormhole travel? Check.
Blackhole travel? Check.
Gated travel of the kind that only appears in our science fiction? Check.
We've been evolving as thinking beings for a couple million years. Think what we'll be like in a couple billion years, what we'll be capable of. Do you really think space is so empty that it doesn't contain 2 billion year old civilizations that have the curiosity to go and see who else is out there? Do think us THAT unique and special that no one else in the vastness of space has evolved like us?
Get real.
We're special, all right.
We're just not that unique.
Life happens, dude, here, there, and everywhere.

No, and the military doesn't have anything to cover up. Stop and think about it for a minute. The laws of physics say that the fastest speed possible is the speed of light at which point any object travelling at that speed would reach infinite mass. That's not possible. So let's say that something, an alien spacecraft, is travelling at just under the speed of light. They would have to travel hundreds, if not thousands, of light years in order to get here. That time would be extended a bit because they wouldn't actually be travelling the speed of light. Now think about everything that would change for them in that hundred-thousand year trip there and hundred-thousand year trip back. By the time they had retrieved any useful information, it would be outdated and useless. The thought of aliens visiting the planet is pretty silly, but it makes sense that man doesn't want to be alone in the universe.
Sebille below me:
You're correct in assuming that any space faring civilization would be more advanced than we are. But...
Wormholes are a theory. There is no proof that they even exist at this point.
Black holes are areas of extreme gravity...so much so that not even light can escape the gravitational pull which is why they are black. If anyone got close enough to a black hole, it would not be a method of travel. The extreme gravity would crush you and your surroundings. Even if you were able to get into one (which you can't), you'd never be able to get back out. Read a book; it's all in there.
I don't even need to address science fiction...
We won't exist in a couple billion years. The sun will have expanded and taken out the earth at that point.
Space undoubtedly has life somewhere else. Maybe not now. Maybe a long time ago. Maybe a long time in the future. Even IF there is life out there, there is no guarantee that we'd even know it. An interesting concept that I'll steal from Ender's Game is that we use radio waves as a method of communication and have been trying to communicate into space for a long time now. It's one of the methods we use to try to pick up other life in space. What if the other life that may exist has no idea what a radio wave is because they communicate telepathically? Or have no use for a radio wave? It's an exercise in futility. The chance that there is something out there is slim to none to begin with. If there is something out there, the chance that it would be able to communicate or survive by similar means that we do is slim to none also. You're talking about chances that are so close to zero it's not even worth considering.

UFO is the acronym for Unidentified Flying Object. So, if you have seen something in the sky that you cannot identify, you have seen a UFO. I think the question you really meant to ask is, "Have we been visited by extraterrestrials?".
So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.
Why haven't we heard from them?
Perhaps they are not technologically advanced to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.
Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that flew by may be a surveillance craft.
Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.
Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.
Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.
It is really impossible to know for sure.
The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

UFO, that is just the definition for "unidentified flying objects" doesn't necessarily mean " intelligent life". I don't believe there are green little beings scaring the hell out of people in the middle of a dessert road in Arizona, or New Mexico or anywhere in the world for that matter.
There is just no solid evidence that intelligent life has visited us. Only urban legends, or conspiracies.

I always answer this one by asking why? Given our position in space. Why would anyone visit such an out of the way backwater that contains only a few run of the mill planets.

I say yes we have been visited, and it is not the military covering it up - it is pressure from religious groups. could you imagine the wars from a crisis of faith of that magnitude

Yes, And mine is really really fast. It uses quarpe crystals and a time warp gismo that makes it go so fast that light looks like it's standing still as we WE travel past it into darkness. Be afraid, Be very afraid !!

Yes we have, thousands of times. Our military is ordered to keep it from us, they are just following orders! It wouldn't take thousands of years to get to earth if they lived in Mars, or on the Moon.
