What about it? I hate stereotypes but all of the "trainspotters" that I've seen have been these out of shape, pastey white guys (with no women in sight). Is this a pastime for nerds and introverts???
(maybe I've to much of a UK perspective...sorry)

While I must admit I don't know what railfanning is, I do know that any hobby is not nerdy. A hobby is something YOU like to do in your spare time or whenever the fancy strikes you. It is something that makes you feel good, worthwhile and relaxed. It makes you learn and encourages you to expand yourself.

Whether it's railfanning or yo-yo stringing, it's yours and you like it!!!

Rail-fans are those who like to go down to the tracks and WATCH trains go by !! Or go to Railroad museums... or even organize and get OLD trains a chance to run the rails again for a special 'treat'.

No, I don't think it's TOO nerdy... my boss was a railfan and was married with 7 kids. And he was ANYTHING but an Introvert.

I'm a Model-Railroader... and indulge in some LOCAL rail-fanning to research certain trains, equipment, and buildings.

It's a HOBBY !! Enjoy it and screw what others might think.
