Many people go shopping on black Friday because things are sold on huge sales. Is this true? Also, what is the proper time to get there to get the best out of this opportunity?

Do Macy's, JC Penny and Walmart offer sales on that day? How much "less' is the price than the usual price on that day? How long does this offer last?

Thanks.

To answer this question i am gonna say i was a walmart and sears employee. Yes you do save alot by shopping after words. But this like many events in the year is a day for the retail business. sure you gonna save money but i know as working this day and also being a shopper everything after like an hour gets picked over and after getting trablmed by millions of ppl its not really worth it. Macys jc penny and walmart yes all have sales this day and usually the prices very. But no you may not find the saving for instance like on a xbox 360 could be marked down to 250 bucks on this day but go back up to 380 bucks the next day just depends. Also word of advice get the sales adds most places such as walmart target bestbuy etc honnor each others prices or they will beat it sometimes these stores are less crowed that then once the put the sales add out!

Best of luck hope i helped!

My family created a Black Friday tradition a few years ago. A forewarning--this is not for the light hearted. Stores vary their opening times some at 5:30 some at 6:00 am. Walmart definitely is one of the early openers, along with Target, Sears, Best Buy and the like. I can guarantee with November only hours away that you will be immersed in commercials and advertisements explaining when and where the sales are.
My best recommendation if you are interested, is get a paper on Thanksgiving and scout the adds. Decide what store holds the deals that you absolutely 'must have.' Last year my brother and I stood outside a store for 45 minutes waiting for it to open... a little extreme I know, but, it is unbelievable how many die-hards show up who will fight tooth and nail to get the most of the cheapest items. I've had some good buys, DVD players, mp3 players, and I've seen many many other deals. Usually the best offers or sales are the electronics which can go for almost 50% less than usual if not more. Other stores, it's a typical sale. Just be prepared, this is not a pleasure outing unless your idea of pleasure is fighting off the 80 people pushing shopping carts full of televisions and CD players.
Best of luck!

A lot of people go shopping that day, that being said, I wouldn't go. Yes there are great deals everywhere u turn, but to take advantage, u have to wake up early, and by early I mean 2 - 3 am to get in line, stores usually open at 6am and the sales last mostly 'til 11am (early bird sales). There are plenty people out there trying to get the same specials u went looking for to begin with. The stores u mentioned (macys, jc penney, & walmart) do have sales that day. If you can, get ur local newspaper on Thanksgiving so u can see all the specials for the following day, there u will see the time (hours) the specials are going to last. Prices (discounts) usually are about 50% off, some stores even have 75% off, it all depends on the store!!! Either way, if u do decide to go shopping on that friday, Good Luck!!!

Hello Im one of the ones that go and fight the crazy crowd on the friday after Thanksgiving,,, yes walmart, kmart, jc pennys all have this kind of sale,,,,Yes you can get some really great deals but you need to get an ad from your local newspaper on the place's that you want to go to and most of them last from 6am to 11am,,, if you are ready to fight millions of people and try and get the best of deals then you need to get to the first store that you are going to first about 330 or 400 that way you can stand at the place where you know where the stuff is going to be at cause they only have a limited amount that they sell on these sales,, Like for instences my first place i go every year is Walmart and the Walmart that i go to is open 24 hours on Thanksgiving they just put the stuff out with it wrapped up in black trash bags on skids so no one decides to get one early,,and plus Walmart will give you a map of where every thing is cause will be in isles like if there is a couple of things I want on during that sale,,, my mom and I go so she will stand at one thing and i will stand one and grab the first one and then i most of the time run to the other stuff and try and get them if they are not all gone...MY mom has made this our tradation for a very long time now cause sence we dont get to see each other much then this is our day out together,,,, Well i hope this helps and good luck if you decide to go shopping on that day,, and beprepared to see some fights over the silliest stuff,,, buts kind of fun to watch how people are when it comes to saving a buck or 2,,, Have a Happy ThanksGiving

Well there is a good side and a bad side to shopping the day after Thanksgiving. The good side is that yes, there are massive sales on that day. The bad side includes the incredible crowds and the rudeness of sale-hungry people.

As far as the actual sales, that Friday will have the biggest sales. Sometimes the sales extend into the weekend, but other times they do not. The stores you mentioned will most likely have a good sale going on.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving and on Thanksgiving day go through the newspaper and find the sales that are available and most interesting to you. You might want to plan which stores you want to go to so that you have an idea of what you want to get as well as backup plans in case the stores don't have what you want. Also try to get there as early as possible in order to find parking and to find the good merchandise.

Then again, you could also just go into a mall and browse, but if you need to buy something (such as Christmas gifts) I would suggest going in with a plan!

The day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. Most people I know avoid it at all costs. People who go on that day are incredibly pushy and not courteous in the least. Every single store has day after Thanksgiving sales but most sale prices on selected items are only good for a certain time frame such as 6-9am. And if you show up at 6:15am or later, there may not be anything left. So you need to get there before the time listed.

But the same stores have sales that last all day though and they are only good on that one day. The newspaper that you get on Thanksgiving is slightly bigger than the Sunday paper and it has all the ads in it for the various stores as well as listing when the times for each.

The busiest shopping day of the year is the day after Thanksgiving. That is why all the great sales are on that day. Do some preshopping before then. Check your paper for the best sales around because you do want to shop early. Most of the sales are with a limited supply so when their out of the product they're out.
The down side of it is that there are alot of people out there shopping and if you hate large crowds you will be miserable.

I have been holding off on buying a digital camera and a 32" LCD TV. Its torture to wait when you want it now BUT it is worth the wait. Most of the really good deals are on electronics. Last year I went to Best Buy at 1 am in the morning with my 2 daughters. We thought for sure we'd be close to the entrance...well the parking lot was packed and the line went all the way around and behind the store!!! There were people with tents, sleeping bags, coolers, blankets, we couldn't believe how many people were there already. Then as we sat in our spot we watched and laughed for the next 5 hours as other people came after us and had the same reaction we just had. All in all it was actually a fun and memorable time that my daughters and I will NEVER forget. Am I going this year.....? You better believe it and according to the early crowd last year I may have to leave right after I swallow my last bite of turkey dinner!!! LOL, just kidding...I think.

Just about EVERY store in the US will have a major sale. But only for certain hours though. that's why people get there so early. I certainly have benifitted from going on black Friday, cause the things are cheaper that day, and I get a lot done in one day. I think it is a great idea to go shopping on black friday!

I work retail and will be working Black Friday. I am 37 weeks pregnant, and if was an option I wouldn't work and I definitely wouldn't go shopping. I wouldn't really worry about getting hurt, but walking around in those crazy crowds and waiting in long lines just isn't worth it for me. I'm sure there will be thousands of pregnant women out there working and shopping Black Friday, but it just doesn't sound like any fun to me. If it is worth it to you then do it! Just make sure you wear some really supportive shoes! Good Luck!
