Yes, the awful spelling does bug me, then someone reminded me that there are people who use this site who do not speak English as a first language, so their grammar leaves much to be desired.
In other cases, I don't know why people don't just use the spell check or re-read their questions and answers before they submit! How hard could that be?

I am glad that there are others, apart from myself, who feel that language should be used correctly. :-)
I also have a comment in response to TayLee's answer. No, we aren't being graded on Y! Answers for the correctness of grammar or syntax.
However, believe it or not, people sub-consciously grade you according to how you present yourself. If you don't care about how you use language, then chances are that you don't care about a lot of other things either, and people tend to gravitate away from people who don't care.
Besides, if you have had the privilege of learning a language, how difficult is it to be proud of it and use it properly? I can technically order at a restaurant by grunting and pointing, because the people at the restaurant aren't giving me a graded report-sheet based on my order, but why should I?
:-)

It depends on how bad the spelling or grammar is. If it's good enough to get the point across, I don't really mind it. If it's so bad I can't even decipher the question, it bugs the crap out of me.

I see a lot of bad grammar too. Yes it drives me absolutely, totally, completely AROUND THE BEND on one level, but we can't correct them all, you and I, so just let it go!
(Very few people spell 'colour' correctly!)

Yes, it does drive me nuts. Some people make typographical errors but some just don't know. I must point out to you that you have made a spelling mistake yourself. 'alot' should be 'a lot'. :)

bad grammar and incorrect spelling is a giant pet peeve of mine, though it never was until i got a job where part of my duties are to proofread papers, ads, business letters, etc.

yes, it does. people like to come back with "it doesn't matter", but it does. when my only interaction with you is through the written word, and you can't spell, or use the language in the right way, it matters very much.
