NEW INFO!!!!!!
i have 2 pairs of heels which i LOVE, one baby blue which tie up my leg (but not super high, above my ankle, but lower than half my calf. and another pair of white with a pretty little bow on the toe part and 1 buckle strap going around my ankle.

so im interested in wearing one of those pairs of shoes and adding accents or jewlery or somethign to match the shoes. maybe a ribbon or sash for a belt to match the shoes, etc.

what does everybody think? have any other ideas?

oh ps!!!...the dress is a halter, which ties around my neck, and is about knee length, fitted on top and flowy on the bottom. very pretty. ive been saving it

Go 'commando' underneath.

I like silver accessories with black dresses. the wide belt is the thing now. find one with a silver buckle and where some platform heels (patent leather) a Small silver clutch. silver jewelry the more the better. I like to wear long and short beads and chains they look really funky!
Here is an article I found helpful

Take your favorite old black dress and a few dazzling accessories, and create a whole new look for yourself. Try these six ideas on for size.
Instructions

STEP 1: Create a serious look with the black dress by teaming it up with a suit jacket and a structured bag.
STEP 2: Spice up your dress with a Far East look: an embroidered kimono bag, an obi for a belt and platform stilettos. An obi is a sash that's typically worn with a kimono.
STEP 3: Consider slipping on jeweled bangles and silver heels. Top off the ensemble with a shawl.
STEP 4: Try a velvet duster with a fur collar or a velvet coat over the dress.
STEP 5: Pair your dress with a sequined handbag and mules for a night out.
STEP 6: Throw on a zebra-print coat paired with a red handbag and sexy leather boots for a wild night out.
Tips & Warnings

Shorten the length or remove straps to create new looks.
Remember that jewelry is your best accessory. Add dramatic pieces or simple ones to alter your image.

If you want classic with a little twist, I suggest wearing a long strand of pearls. Not the type that your mother or grandma would wear, but the modern take on pearls that has been seen on celebs. Otherwise I think you should mix in some colour. Either mix it up with different color shoes and a clutch to match. Or you can wear all black and different coloured jewellry. If you want to dress it up, then wear a bright color. Red, Lilac, Pink, Pearl, or even Gold (don't wear gold everything though). But make sure that you don't overdo it. If you're wearing coloured jewellry, then wear black shoes and take a bag that matches. If you're not wearing jewellry then go with a pair of shoes that matches your clutch. Black is versatile so you can mix or match, with bright contrasting shades or even darker shades. Its upto you what color you feel like teaming it with.

Whatever you do, don't wear a scarf! I think you should add some little things. It may not seem like alot, but the little things really do matter. You should wear like gold accessories and gold shoes. They would the most of a difference. If you don't like gold you can even wear red. You have to wear a color that is sexy all on it's own because that is what's making the "little black dress" not so little anymore.

Here are some options:
1. Colorful Scarf
2. Gold or silver-tone pin (large)
3. Large gold necklace
4. Simple strand of pearls
5. A beautiful smile

Okay, obviously #5 goes without saying. :-) Keep whatever you do very simple. You want him to see your face, not your dress. ("How was your date last night?" "My date? I don't know, but I went out with this really neat black dress . . .") lol

Hope this helps!

Well I understand that you mentioned baby blue, but I think red patent accessories go well with black. Like a red patent belt, or red patent shoes with a red beaded necklace. Just an idea.

Pearls or diamonds (real or imitation). Keep it dainty. Wear a bracelet and earings or a necklace and a gorgeous ring. Nothing more! This way you will draw attention to the dress and your beautiful face:)

A patent belt, some bright unexpected pumps (like red, leopard, etc), coloured stockings, enamel bangles, or a wide intricate belt are some ideas.

Wear some red heals and a piece of red jewelery, like a bracelet.
