I am a teenager and I know the risk of breast cancer is very low, but sometimes I'd press down on my right breast and it hurts. I only notice the pain when I have my period. I heard from a friend that your breasts get tender or such when your period is around, is there a relationship between the two?

All of the things above are true about soreness and tenderness during your cycle. There are other things that can and do contribute to it. For example, my doctor told me that caffeine can also add to the pain in your breasts.

You should definitely talk to an adult about your fears of breast cancer and also your concerns with the tenderness. If you can't go to your mother or guardian, try talking to a school counselor or a teacher that you really like and TRUST. I totally understand the possibility that you don't have a mom you can go to about these things. But, a female figure in your life that will listen and advise is always a safe place to go. Don't be embarrassed by it. EVERY women goes through it. It can be really scary if you haven't experienced it before. We women have to stick together and help each other out.

Welcome to the joys of being a woman! The two go hand in hand. You'dd notice so many things that are affected by your period over the next decade....good luck to you! Oh ya and during that time don't press on your breasts and then they won't hurt as much. Also remeber though that it is good to be in a habit of breast self examinations...just don't do it during that time of month as your breasts can become denser and lumpier than. Make sure you go and have a DR examen them yearly also. It's great that you're already thinking about that issue since you never know and early detection is best!

SWEETIE, I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD WORRY. BREAST TENDERNESS IS COMMON WITH FEMALES DURING THEIR PERIODS. HOWEVER IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT BREAST CANCER, THEN TRY DOING A SELF EXAM. WHEN YOUR IN THE SHOWER IS THE BEST TIME TO DO THIS. WASH YOUR BREAST WITH SOAP, THEN WORK YOUR FINGERS IN A CIRCULAR MOTION STARTING ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR BREAST ALL THE WAY AROUND, MOVE IN CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE NIPPLE AREA. IF YOU AT SOME POINT FEEL A KNOT THAT KIND OF FEELS LIKE A MARBLE, THEN YOU NEED TO GO AHEAD AND SEE A DR. HOPE THIS HELPED...

yes, there's a relationship. for me i get either tender breasts or a painful right breast too before and during mense... it's just the cycle, but sometimes it's a lack of calcium, iron, or evening primrose oil...

another possibility could be that you are growing still? do ask your mum for help, or maybe see a doctor if it gets really bad...

It is common to have aching sensation at the breast just before or during menses. It is due to the hormone effects on the breast tissue.
