The military has their own legal system separate from the Federal Courts.

Any conviction in a military court usually results in anything from reprimand, loss of pay, loss of rank, time in the brig and dishonorable discharge. I believe that military convictions do not become felony convictions because the person was convicted in a military court and double jeopardy prevents a convicted military person from being retried in the federal courts.

UCMJ = Universal Code of Military Justice.

Certain items covered by the UCMJ are not even crimes per se, but violations of military discipline, akin to acts that merit detention in high school.

Calling your boss an ****** might get you fired, by it's not normally going to get you arrested; call your CO an ****** and you will be punished, but not strictly a criminal punishment.
