Is it still emo? Or is that finally starting to die out?

"Emo" and "screamo" haven't died out yet.

With these surplus of generic local bands, I highly doubt any of the mainstream ones will be remembered 20 years from now.

stupid kids.

Jazz rock... I should include ska (because ska really is another name for jazz), but I'm talking somewhere near the girl singing on the piano at a lounge type, but with a rock band. There is Devics, Elysian Fields and Black Heart Procession to name some of the better bands of this style. Punk pop is also back with Von Bondies, The Start, Valeze, The Soviettes, Kissing Tigers, The Mooney Suzuki, The Forty Fives and The D4s.

i didn't even know it had been named yet...

i just sort of name this generation of rock artists 'The' because they all seem to have 'The [this], The [That]' before every name.
They don't even bother to have a reason for the name, they just pick one out of the hat that their marketing department sent them.

I can't wait till it gets back to the old days with the names, but some of their tunes are quite good, i just wish that they didn't all sound so similar.
