You can take one up to 5 days before your missed period. But I would recommend taking one after you've missed your period, because your hormone levels may be too low if you take one too soon. Good luck!

How soon can I check a pregnancy test?
Pregnancy tests measure the level of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in your system. HCG is produced by the embryo and is first detectable in the mother's bloodstream as early as 6-8 days after conception.
Home pregnancy tests measure the level of HCG in urine. These tests cannot measure a level lower than 25, so they do not become accurate until the day you expect your period, at the earliest. A negative result before then is meaningless, since there would not be a high enough level of HCG to detect even if you were pregnant.
Blood pregnancy tests can measure any number from 0 on up. That's why they are more sensitive, and can become positive 6-8 days before your period is expected

With both of my babies, I knew right away I was pregnant, I don't know how, I just knew. I knew both times and both times when I went to the DR after I had already taken an at home pregnancy testy, I was in my 1st week of pregnancy, like probally only a couple of days pregnant the only problem islike with the test I took with my son, the test did not have a positive line on it until the next day, and is was very faint.

If you can be pregnant or if you have infertility problems I reccomend to follow this method http://pregnancy.toptips.org
Many factors can cause a couple trouble in conceiving a baby, I'll list a few of the most common ones in women:
Anorexia or other dietary dysfunctions
Lacking amounts of FSH and LH are produced, so ovaries aren't as functional as they could be, and so not many eggs are produced
Stress, causing periods to become irregular
Medications such as cancer treatments, antidepressants, hormone therapy, pain killers, and antipsychotic drugs can all cause temporary infertility.
With the method that I posted above you will be able to get pregnant!
