some people say their is 12 hands or 13 hands...does anyone know the real number of hands and where i can find the information?

There is a legend that if you look close enough at the hands of the men on the statue, then from a certain angle, it appears that there is a thirteenth hand. While many dismiss this as nonsense, others firmly believe that the sculptor included the hand in the design to represent the hand of God.

The statue contains 6 men, and 12 physical hands, but the remaining hand might be seen at an angle. I'm a Marine, and I was not aware of this legend til you said something... but it sounds like there is a slight chance it was the sculptor's intent to add that in.
