puke is like a cream corned effect with allot of splashing.
vomit is to clinical and something you only do in the hospital. it could be projectile!

They mean exactly the same thing and both can be either nouns or verbs. 'Puke' is informal to the point that it is almost slang, while 'vomit' is formal. A doctor would say 'vomit' but most normal people would be more likely to say 'puke' when speaking to their friends.

It depends who I am talking to. Husband, kids, friends, it is puke. Parents, grandparents, in-laws, aunt & uncles, etc, it is vomit. It is the polite version.
