Make sure you have a card and small gift as soon as you wake up with her in the morning. This will make the dinner more of a surprise and get the day rolling right.
As for gifts, you should give one sentimental gift and one personal gift. For sentimential, I would have a nice photo turned into an oil painting (see link below) and professionally framed with the date of your marriage. For personal, go with jewelry that's been engraved with your names, a favorite saying, etc.
One thing I've learned from my wife is that women would much rather get many intimate small gifts that are thoughtful than one generic "it's our anniversary and i had to buy something so here's a necklace" gift.
One last tip. Buy a journal or open a private blog somewhere. Everyday, write an entry about something she did that you love or enjoyed. For your next anniversary, give her the blog or the journal as a gift.
And if possible, take notes everyday about the little things she wants and likes. It'll make your life much easier. Just make sure she doesn't find it. :)

Make an effort that she is worthy of. Draw her a candle light bath after a long day at work or with the kids(?). Be sure to put baby oil in the water, rose pedals too. Give her a nice full back rub / foot rub. Make her dinner - candle light. Regardless of how good it all is, bust your *** to make it nice. Pearls make a nice and not too expensive gift (freshwater if you're on a budget). At the end of the evening, don't expect a thing. Just tell her how much you love her and how lucky a guy you are.

Definately a weekend getaway, a nice 5 star hotel where it can be just the two of you in a relaxing environment.
There are many hotels that cater for Adults Only (No room for Children!) so it can make the atmosphere more intimate for nookie.
If you want to be creative, what about surprises all day?
You could start with her favourite chocolates (if they are individually wrapped) you can slip in different reasons why you love her, each little note different to the other to keep her guessing.
Clues around the home about where you are gonig and what you are doing that night and what surprises you have in store for her.
Refer to the below website, they have heaps of romantic & creative ideas.
Good Luck & remember to keep her feeling special all night.

Well, as a gag gift you could give her a bag of cotton balls as it is the gift for a first anniversary!
Personally, I like things that my husband has worked on for me. Put pictures of you and her together in a book, or write down things that you think make her special` or the things you would miss if she wasn't around.
A really good gift is something to pamper her. Buy her a "foot care kit" and then wash her feet and massage them. If you aren't up for this, or think she isn't either, a good day at the spa is good, even if she isn't "girly" because they wait on you hand and foot.
Good luck and congratulations!!!!

just let her no that you are still very much in love with her just as you was the day you married her a lot of people forget that and roses would be nice to give her and maybe have someone at the restaurant sing her favorite song if they provide that service

Clean the house, cook a great dinner. Give her a massage and a giftcard for a manicure and pedicure. That would be a dream gift for me.

paper or clocks are the traditional gifts. Every one likes a night out as well, and flowers never hurt. Don't ignore the traditions

i guess a diamond ring will be out of the question but a simple gift of prommisory note notarized by a legitimate lawyer, written in a sheepskin paper with a red ribbon on it with your signature saying that you will love her more this second year of your marriage than the first year and more in the 3rd year and so on and so on.... and really do it! will be appreciated by her bettter yet, have it laminated..what do you think!
