I believe 7.
1st: original
2nd: jamie lee curtis in hospital, beginning was a recap of the 1st.
3rd: stupid, nothing really to do with michael myers, believe it was about putting some masks on and they kill you.
4th: Return of Michael Myers - introduction of michaels meyers niece Jamie
5th: Revenge of Michael Myers - continuation with Jamie and the reveal of michaels face
6th: Curse of Michael Myers
7th:h20 - jamie lee curtis at the private school with her son and he returns, she kills him at the end, supposedly

I love them all with the exception of part three. hope thats what you wanted as far as description goes

I love the halloween movies! There are 9 (8 old ones and one remake coming up!).

Halloween (1978): It starts off with 6 year old, Michael Myers, who you see in the subjective person (like, through his eyes) put on a mask, pick up his machete or whatever, goes upstairs, and kills his sister. Then, he ends up going to the psychiatric ward for 15 years. After those 15 years locked up he escapes and goes back to his hometown where his killing spree starts again.

Halloween 2 (1981): It is still Halloween, 1978, and Michael Myers is on the loose after escaping certain death at Dr. Loomis' hands. By now, the entire sheriff's department is hunting for him, and Laurie Strode - his intended victim - has been taken to Haddonfield Hospital to be treated for wounds inflicted by Michael. Only Loomis & Sheriff Brackett- whose daughter had been murdered by Myers - seem aware of Myers' presence in the town, and a young man unknowingly alerts Myers to Laurie's location. When Myers reaches the hospital he eliminates virtually the entire staff in his pursuit. Meanwhile, Marion Chambers - who had been assisting Loomis during the planned pickup of Myers for his trial - meets up with Loomis to advise him that Myers is after Laurie for 1 reason: she is his sister - born 2 years before he was committed. Loomis is forced to overpower the U.S. Marshal who was to return him to Smith's Grove, and head for Haddonfield Hospital to stop Myers' blood spree.

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch which did not feature Myers:The plot focuses on an investigation by Challis and Grimbridge into the activities of Cochran, the mysterious owner of the Silver Shamrock Novelties company, in the week approaching Halloween night. The focus on a psychotic killer is replaced by a "generic doctor" theme. Moreover, the frequency of graphic violence and gore is less than that of Halloween II (1981), although scenes that depict the deaths of characters remain intense.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers: Fourth in the series and the third to feature the character of Michael Myers. It's October 30, 1988 and Michael Myers has been in a coma since his pursuit of Laurie Strode, 10 years ago, was finally stopped (events of H1 and H2). However when he is transfered from Richmond Mental Institute to Smith's Grove he awakes when he hears that he has a niece in Haddonfield and after killing the transfer crew he escapes. In Haddonfield, the niece, Jamie, has been adopted by the Carruthers family but keeps having nightmares about Michael (but she doesn't know who he is). On Halloween night, Jamie goes out trick and treating, little knowing that her murdering Uncle is following her and her step-sister Rachel. Rushing to her aid is Dr. Loomis and with the help of Sheriff Meeker starts to search the town for Michael and to find Jamie to protect her. I personally like this one.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers: Fifth in the Halloween series and the fourth to feature the character of Michael Myers. It is close to Halloween 1989 and Jamie (the heroine of H4) is in Haddonfield's Children's Hospital after attacking her step-mother the previous year. She is being treated by Dr. Loomis with the aid of her step-sister Rachel and Rachel's friend Tina. She hasn't said a word since the attack but to her horror discovers that she has a mind-link to her murdering uncle, Michael who has spent the year recovering from his wounds in a coma and awakes to go after Jamie again. His plan is to lure Jamie out of the hospital by going after Tina (who is going to a Halloween party) and by murdering Rachel. Jamie knows that she must leave the hospital to save herself and with the aid of Dr. Loomis sets out to defeat Michael on his own home ground - The Myers house...

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers: Sixth in the series and the fifth to feature the character of Michael Myers. It has been six years since both Michael and Jamie disappeared from Haddonfield's Police Station. Now, in 1995, the kids of Haddonfield want to have parties on Halloween Night again after their parents have banned it since the incidents of 1988 (H4) and 1989 (H5). Meanwhile, Jamie has been raped by a cult but manages to escape with her new-born baby. But Michael in hot pursuit. The Strode family has moved into the Myers' house, in an attempt to break the curse and to finally sell the house. But daughter Kara Strode has problems with her son, Danny Strode who is haunted by the Man in Black (from H5). Help is at hand though from not only Dr. Loomis but also from an unexpected source, Tommy Doyle (one of the two child survivors from H1). Tommy has grown up and has researched into Michael's madness and he might have the answer...

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later: Seventh movie in the series and the first to star Jamie Lee Curtis as her character since Halloween 1 and 2. It is 1998 and 20 years after Michael Myers's attack on his unknowing sister Laurie Strode. Since then Laurie has lived with the danger of Michael tracking her down again and therefore faked her death in a car crash and reinvented herself as Keri Tate, the head-mistress of an executive school. However, she is having trouble with the drink, keeps having nightmares featuring Michael and keeps having run-ins with her rebellious teenage son, John, who doesn't believe that Michael is alive. Some of the kids decide to have a Halloween party and Laurie comes out and tells the truth to her boyfriend, teacher Will. However, somebody searches through the papers of recently deceased Dr. Loomis and finds that the info on Laurie's whereabouts are stolen. Michael has found Laurie and people start to disappear during the party. But this time Laurie is not going to run and stays to fight the madman whose trying to complete a job that has taken nearly 20 years so far...

Halloween: Resurrection: When a group of college students win a contest to spend the night in the childhood home of brutal serial killer Michael Myers, they expect a few scares but none of them are prepared for what awaits them. The house has been rigged with cameras as they are to be broadcasted live over the internet to be watched by millions. As they wander around the house in search of some kind of answer for Michael's murderous actions they find a bigger problem. Michael has come home and he does not intend to let anyone leave his house alive. I also really like this one as well.

Halloween (2007 film): This is a new film coming out in 2007. It is the remake of the first Halloween movie and it is to be written, produced, and directed by Rob Zombie.

Hope this helps. Sorry, this took me forever to type LOL. But, I love these movies and really wanted to answer this!
