Well yes and no. Linda Perry wrote the song after her own father died. Then Christina read the lyrics and really loved them, so she and Linda Perry switched them around to be more universal. It is mainly about losing someone before you get the chance to reconcile with them. It could also be about her father the way you interpret it.

I believe it's in memoriam to her late maternal grandmother (her mom's mom), Delcie Fidler who passed away recently.
She meant a lot to Christina.
Having been the first to discover her vocal talents & encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
Whatever the back story may be, it's a song with such sadness & honesty that it reminds me of my Dad's final days of battling with cancer...
