It largely depends on a person's moviegoing habits. I've actually gone through periods where I belonged to both.
Netflix is, by far, the best in terms of independent and hard to find cinema. They also tend to carry unrated and more extreme films than Blockbuster. Their prices are comparable to Blockbuster's (Blockbuster tends to offer more "specials"), but my experience is that Netflix is a touch more dependable and quicker with delivery time. In terms of policies and procedures, they are both fairly comparable in terms of how many you can have out, etc. Netflix tends to be MUCH more flexible in terms of customer service.
Blockbuster tends to carry more of the mainstream titles, more family titles and more Christian titles. They do not carry "extreme" titles (Just like their stores, they do not carry NC-17). They do offer the flexibility of 1 in-store rental a week, which can be great when you just can't wait for that certain film to arrive by mail. Their prices are decent, and their delivery times are typically good...it largely depends on your location. I've found them to be just a little slower than Netflix (and I'm in a big city). I've also found that, much like their stores, they can get a little bit fussy if a disc is scratched. If you're the one who reports it, you may have to argue about not being held responsible for it.
Depending on your taste, you could also explore some of the smaller, more indie flavored options (like Film Movement or GreenCine). But, those are primarily geared towards indie film lovers.

I currently use 3 rental services. Netflix, Blockbuster, and Gameznflix.
In my opinion Blockbuster is the best choice. Especially if you live close to a store.
-They have never throttled their movies for me, and netflix has.
-When they receive my movie, I receive one the next day.
and BEST OF ALL.....
You can return the movies to your local blockbuster store, and get a free in store rental for each one you return.
They will log it in as returned online, and you will receive the next movie in your queve the next day. (at least I do)
With Netflix I get about 24 movies a month.
With Blockbuster I get about 50 movies a month. (If I return the movies at the store.)
Both cost $19.07 a month for 3 at a time unlimited.
Hope this helps.

I haven't used Blockbuster online, But you get free instore rentals each month. Netflix is okay but it takes longer to get your movies then they say it does

my sister was using netflix for awhile and then when she tried to stop the service, they made her pay an extra month's bill.
she's now with blockbuster. when you sign up for blockbuster, you get a free movie coupon every week that you print out (but you have to go to the actual store to get the free movie)

I have blockbuster and i am happy with it...for 15.99 i get 3 rentals at a time and they fly back and forth fast through the mail...you can rent about 15 a month and every week they give you a new release for free at store. If you have a complaint they give you a free game/new release rental at store. I like it, its easy. They have free postage and also replace any missing ones free.

I have Netflix, and I could not be happier! The ads on TV are true. The turn around time has been 1 day for me 90% of the time.

I prefer Blockbuster, because I live in Dallas and they are based here, so I get my movies two days after I mail my old one out. And also you get a free weekly coupon for ANY instore rental, so really with that it pays for itself. As for loosing movies, I have sent two out that they never got...(we have mail thieves at my apts) and I haven't been charged a penny.
