You guys are awesome. Thanks for answering. I enjoy all the responses.

For me, that place is special too.

I think the thing that I get excited about are the sort of "games" they play with your perception.

For example, there's the basement of the temple which is pitch black and you have to trust yourself to pull yourself along the rope until you get to the stone with the sanskrit letter on it, then get back out.

Then there's the two rocks in the shrine on the side where you will be granted your wish if you can walk from one to the other with your eyes closed.

Also, there are a couple of things that are really heavy that you can try to lift up.

The best part about Kiyomizu Dera for me is the climb.
You know that small hill you need to hike up before you get to the temple? I love climbing that hill.
Granted, it's quite a work out during the summer season but still it's fun looking at the gifts and stopping for a break at the tea houses.
Oh man now I wanna go!!!

My favorite place in Kyoto! I love the veranda that overlooks the city. Oh, and there are the love shrines right next door. My fiance went exploring in the woods behind the temple, and it was totally spooky! We were freaking each other out, but when we looked at the map, it was like a very strange sense of people having been here before.

It's worth the trip up the hill. Oh, and I love the souvenir shops on the way down!

The view of the mountains. There are no mountains where I live, so to see both mountains and trees for a long distance is spectacular.
