According to the ban on abortion in SD a woman may get emergency contraception after being raped and it would not be in violation of the abortion ban. According to what I have learned this can be up to 14 days. Respectful comments pro or otherwise would be appreciated.

It can take up to 14 days to detect pregnancy. Where people are getting confused is that sperm can live in the woman for upwards of a week. So emergency contraception still could be taken after 5 days after being raped.

emergency contraception (the morning after pill) is only effective if taken within 72 hours of exposure. This should be offered when given a rape kit at the hospital.

There's an abortion ban in SD? Damn, I would've moved a long time ago. Well, I know that the morning after pill only works up to 72 hours after sex. I don't see why a woman who has been raped would even wait that long. I'd go the same day/night.

The plan b pill is only effective for about three days after the encounter, but I don't know what other emergency contraceptives would be available in SD.

I do know that we need to be fighting harder for our rights as women. I have kids and I hate the idea of abortion. But I know that it has to be there. It is a protection that women need to have and the christian right has been focused on eroding it for decades, its time we stood up and stoped them.

Yes, an abortion results in a dead baby. But the alternative is women being forced to cary pregnancies they can't handle, emotionally, physcally, financially. I have three children, but I also had one abortion. The pregnancy was causing me to be so sick I couldn't work. I had no support from the father and would have lost my apartment and my kids, I had no choice, I had to look out for the children I already had.
