The last 2 elections have been very disgusting. All these smear campaigns and undemocratic plays have destroyed our republican democracy. I'm working to help our voters to look for a third choice and the only way we, the voters who swing the votes every election, can do this is by uniting. We need to fight the duopoly by having a package that allows for electoral reform like doing away with unopposed districts, allow for lower thresholds to be on the ballot, open up to IRV, allow for the use of multimember districts and proportional representation systems and fair elections. We seriously need a third party that can finally represent what us voters want! Remember: the Republicans did away with fusion voting& they started the whole ballot access thresholds. They were a third party before they won and maybe they closed the doors of democracy to third parties. We all must fight for our rights to have many choices when we vote, we should make the choices not the politicians.

Yes, the Republicans were a third party. In 1854, in WI, a group of Whigs, dissatisfied Democrats and opposers to slavery met in a Congregational church in March 1854. Then in July, the same group met in MI and started the Republican party. The Whig party died after the 1852 elections and left the Republicans and Democrats alone forming the two-party system we have now.

I do agree that we could use a third party to help shake things up and give some of these overly complacent politicians a good kick in the pants so that they actually start looking at what the people want instead of just trying to push their political agenda. The only problem is that so far all of the other parties are just so far out there with some of their ideas that it is going to be impossible for any of them to be taken seriously in any election. We need a new party formed that will take a look at our country and the world as it is today and make an intelligent assessment of what the true needs are as things stand now. Right now I see far too much bickering and attacks that I don’t know if anyone can look beyond that to actually form such a party. But here’s for hoping :-).

We are just about at the point of no return. I am so disappointed in the way the 2006 elections are going. No one out there is fighting for the American voters, the politicians are fighting for themselves so they can hold on to their positions. They get a lot money and perks being a politician. It's a way of life for most. Not one of them has any solid answers as to how we are going to solve Americas problems. They don't care. We need a change all right! As along as we continue to let them pad their pockets at our expense, nothing is going to change. If they have been in office for more than two terms, vote them out period. That would solve some of the problem? Things are going to get worse before they get better! Vote vote vote

"If voting mattered it wouldn't be legal."
