I am neither a liberal nor a conservative. I looked at the voting history of presidential elections and there is a strong correlation with states with high literacy rate voting for liberals and states with lower literacy rate voting for conservatives. There are lot of things I agree and disagree with both sides. Is it possible that our educational system is more in favor with the liberals? Could this all be a discreet way to control our younger minds that liberals are a smarter choice than being conservative? Please help me understand for I am not that brilliant nor am I retarded.

I would say that there is definitely a Leftist bent to the educational system in this country. This is especially evident when you look at colleges. They are the breeding ground for political correctness, which IMHO is simply apologetic behavior for societal guilt. But you also have to remember, that educated and smart are two different things. My youngest sister is an assistant teacher at a very well known college, and she will be the first person to tell you that 75% of the people she teaches are idiots. Idiots with money, to be sure, but idiots just the same. At the same time, I have had the honor of knowing many people who may have not had much in the area of education, and in a couple of cases were completely illiterate, and still were some of the smartest people I have ever met. Practical ability will take you a lot farther in this world than a college degree.

Most of them aren't, they just put on the public to make you think they are. I remember when Hillary first came on the scene, everyone always talked about how smart and well educated she was. Yet, when the facade was realized and she was put into question, she blamed "right winged conspirators." You have to understand the press, takes things and runs with them before there is a pure study of what politicos think, believe, and understand. They have the ability to reach so many people so quickly, and to continue to spread their own slant on things. Also, if you hear something often enough, sooner or later it will seem as if it has got to be true. We saw that in the fruitless effort of the Democratic party during the last congressional races. They used the term "don't throw the baby out with the bath water," on every occasion one of them got in front of the camera. When people finally caught on to this empty phrase, they realized the Democratic party was offering empty pledges, and promises, and all the while standing on a wobbling platform of iniquitous debate. End result, they are still trying to gain control of the house and senate. Will they succeed? While it is possible, the sad truth of the matter is that America loses regardless of who comes to the forefront of this election year because neither side has shown proof of a positive way to keep America moving forward. There is way too much bickering, even among the same party affiliations. This election has just become political posturing on both sides and the authentic needs of America are put aside for another 2 years until we choose another forked tongue president.

Liberals and think there dumb and closed minded???? The anti-gun, anti-military crap of the liberals turns off a lot of voters. If liberals were so educated why do they raise taxes on people. I think a PhD would mean you take a economics class and learn the laffetry curve. The left politically has good points about labor, and Human Rights. The reality is murky middle votes Republican, or Blue Dog democrat most times because they represent the view of the population better than a linoseme liberals.

Id like to see who compiled those results. I can only think that so called liberals that went to high priced Colleges
that served cool aide in the student lounge. Four year Colleges proffessors mostly lean to the left. Its the working stiff that grasps conservative vlaues. Middle class Americans don't have time for Fratt Parties and Sport Jocks classes.
Get your hands on a study that tells you what precentage of College Profs are liberal.
Read the Mayflower Compact we left Europe to get away from Liberal Governments.

Although the premise is misleading, I will attempt an answer.

More and more college and university teachers are indoctrinating the students in their beliefs. This was clearly evident in the example of the student who taped his teacher ranting about President Bush.

Not all will be compelled to follow in their example, but consider this: Teachers and college professers are in a Union and therefore have a vested interest in biasing their students into their way of thinking to create their legacy through their teaching. At one point in time, I might have thought it a stretch, but recent events have led me to give it more credibility than before.

Conservatives by definition try to preserve traditional beliefs and values, so that naturally goes against science, new research, new ideas, etc. - consider the idiotic concepts of "intellignet design" or opposition to stem cell research, and so forth. Most of them really believe that the Bible offers all answers, so why would they study anything in colleges where people tend to think about the world in an analytical way, refusing dogmas, particularly those based on zero evidence, like any religion is.

They are not.

There are more liberals in colleges, but that is because most of the students do not have political feelings yet, except the ones who are easily led by liberal professors.

When many of those liberals graduate, and start to live in the real world, they turn conservative, and the ones who were not political to begin with will usually become conservatives as well.

looking at many of these answers is a bit frustrating. I'd love to compare I.Q. scores with most of you.

I'm from Massachusetts (aka Liberal Central) and for the past 12 years we've always voted a conservative in for Governor. So i think your assumption is very wrong.

Most professors are libs. My sociology professor is a big time liberal; moreover, I think our educational system promotes liberalism - and not objective thought. Having said that, I have to make an observation about you - you're smarter then you think!
