I think Lebron is already much better than Jordan was at his age. Remember, Jordan never passed the ball the first 5 years of his career. Lebrons area he will never pass Jordan is defensively. Also, it will be hard to win the same amount of titles because Jordan had Pippen, another great player. Right now, Lebron has...............no one.
Add to that the city Lebron plays in (cursed Cleveland, a place destined to never win another profesional sports title), and you see that unless he moves to another team, he can't get six titles. Jordan couldn't do it alone, and neither can any NBA superstar (you here that Kobe?).
Finally, I do have a problem with the phrasing of your question though, you called MJ the greatest ever. Frankly, I think many others could wear that crown. Remember, Wilt averaged 50 points and 30 rebounds a game in a season. And Bill Russell won more titles. There are many others I could name. Jordan was the best player of the 90's but not the best ever.

If the hype worked for Jordan, there's really no reason it couldn't work for Lebron...it really depends upon whether ESPN wants him to pass Michael. If, down the road, ESPN decides to say that Lebron is the best player ever, then hey, Lebron will be the best ever.
It would help Lebron's case if HE could play in some NBA finals against crappy teams that have no business being there.
And btw, Michael's six rings is barely halfway to the record.
Lebron is a far better player than Jordan was at the same age, that's about all you can really compare between the two.

Probably not. LeBron will be great but not as great as Jordan was. and i have also noticed that some people think it will be Kobe who will surpass MJ and that's BS. MJ and LeBron are both better than Kobe. Kobe is good, don't get me wrong but its ridiculous to consider him the greatest player ever.

MJ brought a new dimension to the NBA - he was a milestone in the sport. A guy like Russell, Chamberlain, Cousy, Oscar, West, Bailor, Magic, Bird. LeBron is a highly gifted athlete but only time will tell. Jordan was the greatest player in a game peopled with wonderful players. So far, that is.

Eventually he will, but he's not there yet. In terms of physical fitness Lebron passed jordan before Lebron was a senior in highschool. Talent wise he has the capabilities of beating him. you have to take into consideration that the competition level was different back then too. The stakes are higher now and LeBron has to excel over the competition nowadays. No one will ever take the title from Micheal becuase he was ahead of his time in terms of work outs and health which is why he surpassed everyone. LeBron isn't ahead of his time but right on schedule he's better than anyone else who's doing what he's doing.

In my opinion......MJ was NOT the greatest player ever, so your question is meaningless.
Will Lebron surpass the accomplishments of MJ? Up to this point, he already has. Jordan never broke .500 until his 4th year, so LJ is already past that.

That i think is in the minds of the current generation following his progress and will no doubt follow his entire career. To those people he will be the greatest player ever, and for the ones who grew up in the Micheal Jordan ERA and thought he was the greatest ever than to them no matter how many markers he passes he probably won't win allocades from the older Jordan fans. Like in my case it is Jack Nicklaus and golf. To me he is and will allways be the greatest golfer ever. No matter how badly Vija Singh or Stewart Appleby or Sergio Garcia eventually stack up to his records of tournament wins. He will always be the greatest in my mind. It is to hard to compare one generation of professional talent when so much changes in equipment used by the current players of sports compared to what earlier players played with. Court lighting. Net flexibility, shoes, protein supplements energy drinks etc. Or now with golf. Titanium clubs, high tech balls, consistent course lay outs etc. Just can't really compare one generation to the next. Just enjoy the entertainment that the new generations have to offer us and if you want to accept them as the best of all time than go for it.

LeBron is good but the NBA's overall game has improved. alot of talent has come out, LeBron would have to score like 50 a game to beat MJ

no, he will equal jordan, but i don't think he will pass. they kind of have different games, jordan was relentless at attacking, were as lebron likes to pass more. we will never be able to say who's better, we will just argue. I do believe lebron is more advanced at his age though, but i also thing jordan was better at penetration. Can't wait to see lebron develope his back to the basket game, start fading away hittin jumpers in people faces from the post, then I will be able to tell who is sicker. I also agree with skywalker, you have to consider kareem and wilt and those guys as equals also, because basically they were unstoppable in their generations.
