I dont think either of them were very good. I took the true meaning from both of their comments and I think it is particularly insulting that they would try to explain this away. Lying to me and the American people is no way to conduct yourself when you hold public office, but then neither is acting like a spoiled adolescent.

I don't believe either of these statements are what I would call "foot in mouth" comments - at least not until they find out how their comments are received.

I believe they truly expose the hidden and honest convictions of the speakers - and only when there is backlash which threatens to undermine their personal political ambitions or further their agendas - then it becomes a "foot in mouth" statement that they either spin, deny or, best yet, try to explain what they really meant - put the listener on the defense for misunderstanding their comments and unfairly criticizing them.

In the two examples you give - both of these "excuses" are pathetic - and further demonstrate clearly just how dumb these clowns think we are.
