Take away all lights in the entire universe, would it be pitch black or something else? My theory is that it would be something else, cause the simple fact; you cant have darkness with out light. I think that all darkness is shadows confirming the above. Take a box and a lamp for example; put up one side of the box and it casts a shadow, now put up all the sides, top and bottom. You have shadows trapped in a box, "darkness." So is it caused because of no light or because of shadows?

Take note that we see because of light. Without light, there is total darkness. Darkness existed before light did. Theoretically, as philosophers suggested, the universe started as "Nothing". Then if there's nothing, there was no light. How come you've thought that there is only darkness when there is light. A shadow is darkness, considering that light wasn't able to reach that certain area. So, if the universe has no light, then there is TOTAL DARKNESS... There is no evolution, there are no species, no planets, no sun, no humans, no questions, only NOTHING.

Well if there is no light? How can there be shadows? You need light in order to have a shadow. If you close your eyes and seal it shut, would you see any shadows? I think not. If you do? That's your imagination.

Darkness is caused by lack of light, so you can only have darkness without light.

Before the Light there was darkness. Nothingness. Devoid of life and life needs some sort of light. No light no heat to preserve life. Even a rock needs light in order to simplify its uniformity. So who would be around to notice it?
(Gen 1:3) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

My suggestion is to go on line to www.astronomy.com and look up the correct answer. However without light there is no heat from the stars and our main star is the Sun we would all perish. I think that you will find the web-site interesting.

it is caused by the lack of visable light. light is not an actual thing, but the eye's perception of electromagnetic waves, it is an energy. it not like a cup, where there water or their air, it's like a tv. It's on, or off.

With no light there would be no sun. Therefore with no sun there would be no heat and Earth would not be able to have life on it. So if there was no light, you wouldn't be asking this question.
