People don't celebrate anything like they used to. Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, 4th of July etc..
Name the holiday and I'll show you a day people don't bother with as much as they did when I was a kid.
Almost every house used to have pumpkins. Almost every house would have candy. Almost every house would have decorations. There would be a carnival at the school.
There are a number of factors in my mind. Decorations are too expensive. But that's crap. You can make stuff out of junk. People just don't care anymore. Every year it's worse and worse. I think there are a few million more new comers to this country who don't choose to participate in the traditions of this land. Not doing things can be contagious. Your neighbors don't do it one year. So you don't do it the next. People don't have the community spirit anymore. It's very sad. This country is going down the crapper. Take a good look at it. Once it's gone it's gone forever. If I could move to Scotland or Denmark or some other friendly country towards Americans I would.

I think people are scared there kids could get hurt or violated. Not to mention candy tampering. There having parties at community centers and private homes. Ive been living in my neighborhood for almost 6 years and ive seen the decline rapidly. I first started having 60 to 100 kids in the beginning and today i had 27, thats sad. This is one of my favorite holidays. I think they celebrate but in different ways.

Too many people trying to dwell in the past or make something into something that it is not.
Why take the fun from the kids, because of fear of some strange thing you don't even know if it is true or what is true about it.
The important thing is what it stands for now and that is trick or treating and costuming and having fun. It does not mean you are satanic or whatever because you want to do these things.

I have no answer for that.
I had about 50 kids come trick or treating tonight, and at least 15-20 didn't even have costumes on.....And 10-15 were over 15 years old.....
When I was a kid, we all used to dress up and terrorize the neighborhood for candy! I think maybe parents are getting lazier and less creative.
I made my daughters costume ever year, and went out with her and her friends for hours (so it seemed) and get tons of candy.....
I miss those days!

I was driving home tonight from work between 7 and 7:30 and I passed block after block of only 4-5 porch lights on out of 20 or 30 houses per block. It made me kind of sad that so many people are opting out these days.

I believe that there is no place safe in this world and that people use even Halloween to hurt and take advantage of people. Being a mother I wouldn't feel safe allowing my children to go out and trick or treat by themselves.

Which people? It used to be a harvest holiday, Samhain. Somehow, evil spirits walking around became associated with it, and people wore their costumes in earnest, trying to ward of the ghouls and so forth.
We lost all meaning over here in America,
and then kids were poisoned by neighborhood freaks.
Then we got health conscious, and teeth started rotting out all over the country.
Or maybe the parents ate too much of it, and that blew their Atkins' diets.

this is actually a good question.
the reason is because most americans are finally shedding the insecure shackles of tradition.
you can see this in regards to marriage and child rearing as well - people are simply not doing it.
more and more people are becoming irreligious, and I see this as a direct affect of leaving tradition.
