Reload the latest Software Drivers for your Sound Controller Card / Chip. The can be downloaded from the Website of the manufacturer of the Sound Controller Chip / Card.
If you have the System Software CD of the Computer with you, then you maybe able to find these Drivers on that CD.

this happens to me all the time......there is a mute button on my keyboard...(i didnt know) when i press that a second time i get sound back.....bloody kids
