The song was written and recorded by Prince, and was based on a break up.
When Sinead O'Connor covered the song, her mother had recently died, and that is why she cries 'that' tear in the video. (All of the flowers, mama...)
One of the few times a cover version is better than the original.
Still makes me cry when I hear it.

yeah i knew she covered it just didnt know who though, but i know she was thinkin of her mother, whom died i think when she was young and had trouble with, the part where she sings, "all the flowers that u planted mama, in the back yard, all died when u went away" its a good song!!!!!!
