My daughter won a Goldfish earlier this evening, unexpectedly. I have the whole setup for a fish, except that I have food for the Betta fish that I used to have, but no Goldfish food. Until I can get to the store tomorrow afternoon, is it OK if I give the Goldfish a pinch or 2 of Betta food?

There should be no problem with feeding your Goldfish, Betta food.

Just be sure to not overfeed. (That's a good general rule, in anycase. And I'm sure you're aware of that with past experience with a light eater such as a Betta.)

And because Betta food typically floats you may want to add a touch of water before adding the food into the tank. It'll weigh the food a tad so that the flakes (assuming) slowly drop below the water line. Goldfish can succumb to "Swim Bladder"/"Bloat" by having to reach to the surface to eat and ingesting oxygen at the same time.

I am not for sure about this, but I wouldn't feed the goldfish the betta food. You should go to the pet store and buy goldfish food. The betta food has ingredients that only betta should have. And also goldfish do not grow that much when you first get them. If it is a baby goldfish then yes it will grow in like 2 weeks, but if it is big then no.

It will be fine not eating for a day so you don't need to give him anything. If you want to though then try a veggie like a pea or carrot.

What size tank is it? Usually tanks that people have for bettas are way too small for goldfish.

I don't see a problem with it, I mean it's better to eat the beta food than to starve isn't it?? Your fish should be just fine. We did it once when we 1st got our goldfish and now it's been over a year that we've had them and thay are just fine.
