pH5 to 6. Good question. Many people including health care workers do not know that the pH changes along the alimentary tract. The stomach has the lowest, meaning most acid pH. ph 1-3. The it changes in the duodenum. But you knew that, are you studying Physiology?

Im not really sure what your question is but i can talk about the pH of the duodenum....
The duodenum is the portion of the small intesting that is located just after the exit of the stomach (the pyloric sphincter). When food leaves the stomach it is a big bolus of "gunk" called chyme. This chyme has mixed with hydrochloric acid in the stomach and therefore is quite acidic. To counteract that acidity, that the duodenum can not deal with a hormone called CCK (cholycistikinane...check the spelling) this hormone tells the stomach to stop producing acid. The reason the duodenum can not handle the acid is because it does not have a mucus lining to protect the epithelial cells from acid damage like the stomach does. Because of this hormone the duodenum does not become overly acidic, and digestion can proceed normally.

I wish to correct rebecca's answer. Food from the stomach is quite acidic from the hydrochloric acid produced by the stomach. The duodenum cannot handle this acid, so it is actually the pancreas that provides bicarbonate to neutralize this stomach acid and raising the pH in the duodenum. So the pancreas provides the bicarbonate, and also the digestive enzymes needed to break down the food.

1. trypsin and bile. 2. Bile is alkaline – Bile drops in the duodenum on the acid product that came from the stomach. So, its pH is 8.5
