As what pooh-z said, you'll get fingerprints on them if you're not wearing any gloves. Even if you are wearing gloves, the gloves might leave some powdery residue on the slide. Then when you look at the slides under a microscope, you see alot of unwanted particles instead.

so you don't get bacteria from your fingers all over the sh*t you're trying to examine/grow. That would be great when bugs off your slimy hands eradicate the plant cells you were so carefully nurturing, or what have you.

you will smudge the glass and make it hard to see the thing you are looking at, also this will keep the slides to gether so they won't come apart.
