The most difficult thing I've had to do in my life is hard to pin down to just one thing. But, I would have to say getting a divorce. That is like going through a death, only with a twist, especially if the other party is contentious and draws out the pain and suffering.

Good news is, I survived and went on to heal and do some great things in my life.

Telling the veterinarian that he could kill my dog (who was dying of cancer). My dad died unexpectedly when I was 23 -- and there was nothing I could do about that! With my dog, I actually had the power to end her suffering; the responsibility for the decision was totally mine. Accepting the responsibility and then acting on it was and still is the most difficult thing I've ever had to do.
P.S. I've been through a divorce (emotionally difficult) and a birth (physically challenging), but neither was nowhere near as hard to do as deciding when my dog died. I'd hate to be in that position vis a vis a loved one.
