Minor political parties are those that don't really have a huge membership yet. You can find a listing of a lot of them here from Politics1 http://www.politics1.com/parties.htm
Anyway, the US will be much better with them on the ballot. It could increase civic participation because people will actually have someone that can represent them someone to believe in. Plus, with proportional representation, it would allow more diverse groups to finally be represented. This can only help our democracy.

Remember the Republicans started out as a party for a good purpose. I am not sure if that is the case today. But there could be a good third party.
But also remember the Bull-Moose party run by Teddy Roosevelt. This party did not succeed. But it died out. I tihink America is too comfortable with the two parties we have now. We are maybe afraid to try something new.
We m,aybe better off and maybe not. What do other parties have to offer the country that is fair to all.
