I prefer working for myself. I can set my own hours, I don't have to fight the nightmare traffic in my city, and I don't have office politics to contend with. The downside of working for myself is that if I don't sell the I don't "eat." Its well worth it to me. I have a product that practically sells itself.

Self-employment. I can't blame anybody else for crappy pay, which I know is a favorite activity for employees.

But when the weather is warm I wear shorts and flip-flops and Hawaiian or T-shirts everyday, and I don't punch a time clock. I have flex-hours (which of course occasionally means 24-hours straight or all weekend--- but it's worth it.)

The only problem is that I see, and pay, exactly what it costs for health insurance, FICA, Social Security, Worker's Comp and the rest of the taxes for myself and my employees. The amounts would scare payroll people to death....

Being employed.

I would suck at running something; would HATE having to market myself; and prefer the bosses have to deal with all the tax, health care, and general infrastructure stuff, as well as most of the hassles.

Give me meaningful work and I'll take it.

I prefer working for myself because of the freedom and the fact that I control what I earn without the limitations of working for another or others.

I have had the opportunity to do both so I can see the benefits and drawbacks to both.

Which do I prefer? Definately working for myself. But the ideal situation would be to have an opportunity that allows for both.

Working for others, in myopinion, sucks. Gossip, back-stabbing, politics, nasty superiors, etc. That said, it does usually guarantee a steady income. Working for myself is a great joy and burden and I rarely get paid (as a new business)

I would love to be able to work for myself. I had a real part time job at home and it was awesome.
