In Australia, there is NO limit on tenure of the office of Prime Minister. and in Australia, voting is COMPULSORY.

A Prime Minister can be re-elected 4, 5, or even 6 times (yes, it HAS happened). Why does America have those limits?

Three are 2 limits on tenure as president. You cannot be elected more that twice and you cannot serve more than 10 years.

Bill Clinton could in theory serve 2 more years but that would be difficult to work out. He cannot run again because he has already been elected twice.

But a former President like George H. W. Bush could run and serve as President again because he only served 4 years and was only elected once.

The Constitution was amended to limit the number of years a person could be president. Normally, 2 full terms of 4 years, and that's it. But if a President dies, the Vice President becomes President, and if he serves under this rule 2 years or fewer, then he can go on to run for 2 more terms. If he serves under this rule for more than 2 years, he can only run for 1 more term.

No more than two terms served as President, that's the rule. Clinton could also not serve in any capacity in the government that is in succession line for the Presidency.

Nobody can serve more than two terms as president. If they served one term and then lost, they could try again the next election.
