Look at it this way. You NEED electricity to survive. If you delay paying the loan for another few months, they too will survive. The loan can wait. You need to get an agreement from them to take a certain amount each month until the loan is paid in full. It will probably cost you even more but at least you will have your utilities. I don't know about the rest of your financial situation but you may need to consult with a professional for assistance. I really don't like the consumer credit counselors but that may be the best bet that you have at this point. Without knowing your full financial situation, everything is just a guess.

got no kids? got great idea - go to work at 2nd and 3rd jobs . you will not need to worry about cold water. wash up at work. save your money pay food , utilities, rent FIRST then what ever is left over pay the loan sharks. No they will not come to you at night and break both your knees just make you feel that way.

You have survived this long without power. Can you go a little longer? If you get it hooked up (Im guessing you got it shut off because you didn't pay) you will need to pay up your bill current and you will need to make a deposit, and you will need to make a rehookup fee. Then you will have money going out every month to make the payment for what you used. If you pay all that, you will have a harder time paying off your debt. In as much as you have no kids I have to ask how are your camping skills? I'm serious. MY home became a campsight while I was going through my divorce. I'm algergic to women. they make me break out in poverty. We have a wood stove so we have only wood heat. Its been that way for so long, that we got used to it. I'm well on my feet now but we continue the wood heat to this day. We also made our own electric power...our water was off so we hauled water in buckets and 15 gallon drums. We used the propane bbq to heat water for a warm spit bath. Any way back to the home made electric power. I got 2 deep cycle marine batteries ($52 in those days and about 64 each, now) and hooked them up to an inverter. I ran a cord to an out let and would then back feed the power into the house. We ran a few lights and the fridge, that was it. I took the batteries to work and charged them in the car on the way to work and back again. When I got home we would cycle the fridge and freezer and turn on a few lights. I switched to LED night lights as it burned less power. Bought a few at walmart make sure you get the white ones. Put one in every outlet in the room and you can see to get around. Candle in the bathroom and we were set. I had a Kerosene heater so some times I would buy kersene and we ran the heater when we were short on wood. Kero heaters are a century old and the technology has not changed much.

All that said it should be pointed out that I had a wood stove and did not have to buy one. I got it against hard times. The same with the kerosene heater, and inverters and pair of batteries. Its part of my 72 hour kit. We lived on it for a long time. Much longer than 72 hours. I have no idea what resources you have available to you. If none, then perhaps when you get over this hump, you should shop in the future with an eye to the next personal disaster.

Screw christmas. For most its a big spending extravagansa. Not a good idea. You will have other christmas hollidays. Getting through this may just be your chirstmas gift to your self. If you were part of my family and you didn't get me anything for christmas because of this, I'd be ok with it. I suspect your family will be ok too.

A little propane heater may be cheaper for you than getting things hooked up. You can get one from walmart for cheap if you look around. Also ebay but that may take a long time to get it shipped. Walmart will have one in stock you can take home now. Home depot will have a propane bottle you can buy for about 30 bucks. in total you will spend about 50 for heater bottle, fuel and go home and hook it up. Don't run it while you sleep and put the bottle outside. Never leave it inside while you sleep or running while you sleep. IF you close off the rest of your home you can get it to warm up one room.

So what camping supplies do you have and how good are you at camping? Your in a bad spot, sort of between a rock and a hard place. In the end its your call. I admire the fact that you have made some sacrafices to get this far and you may have to make a few more. In the long run getting out of the hole, and getting your self back on your feet may happen sooner if you continue as your are. Never the less, its your call. If I were you and had to do this, I'd stick it out and get out of the hole. As it was I did this with 5 kids and no wife. It was hard but we did it. I"m divorced now and all the way out of the hole but thats another story. Good luck.

Let's put it this way. You can't go the winter without electricity. So get that turned on, definitely. Also...most lenders would rather settle than drag your butt to court, so call them and work out a repayment plan.
