Recently the timing belt on my car broke and when it broke some of the valves were damaged. The dealer fixed all of it but when I got my car back it would run really rough unless I was accelerating fast. I hit a pothole and all of a sudden it started running normal again but there is still a whine coming from the engine compartment that is especially noticable when idling. It sounds pulley related.

I"m guessing they didn't tention the timing belt correctly and the whining is coming from under the timing cover. The only other possibility is that either the timing cover is hitting the belt or pulley

Sounds to me like a loose alternator belt. Tensioner may be bad or weak. Check the amount of deflection inbetween pulleys.

your water pump , power sterring pump , and alternater all have bearings , Remove the belt and turn the pulley to see how it feels and sounds . and if the dealer fixed it and it ran rough untill you hit a pothole and now it runs ok , you need to take it back to see whats loose ect. for that to happen

It's a pretty good way to go about maintaining your car because you get to know it. It may save some money too.

I seen it a million times mechanics trying to work quick not smart and they over tightening your timeing belt tensioner. My advise to you is take it back to the shop that repaired it and tell them whats wrong.

sounds like they didn't do the timing belt right..if it's not in tune it could do damage to your motor..take it back to the dealership and tell them what it's doing and what it was doing..they should have to fix it

You didn't state the year, make, and model of your vehicle. But, by the sounds of things, it sounds like they've OVERTIGHTENED your timing belt tensioner.

either ur altinator or water pump is out of it. A noise like that is a start of something about to go out.
