Animal prints can be classy or tacky, depending on the style, how it's being worn, etc.
Some general rules:
1) Don't wear an animal print head-to-toe
2) Don't mix animal prints
3) Keep the rest of your clothes and accessories simple. Don't make your outfit too busy.
Leopard print is huge right now, so looking in fashion magazines can give you some great ideas on how to wear an animal print tastefully. Some of my favourites are a leopard print pencil skirt with a plain black top and a deep red dress with leopard print pumps.

It really depends on the look you are going for. I think the all-over animal print look is kind of tacky on most women, but a few can carry it off. What's fun, though, is to use just a little bit to suggest the "animal" in you, and to have it in unusual places. Like the lining of a purse. Or just a headband. Or as trim on a dress. Or just the collar. You get the idea -- not an all-over look. Just enough to add some spice. Co-ordinate with the dominant color of the print. A zebra would look good with a black outfit, or red. Leopard with dark chocolate brown clothes. Tiger with a black outfit, again.
In small amounts, the animal prints really never go out of style. OTOH, you'd better save the leopard-print cat suit for Halloween.

i think it looks great, but it can look ridiculous when overdone. it's all about common sense, if you wear an animal print top, then don't wear anything else with patterns on. animal print headbands co ordinate well with similarly patterned shoes. keep the jewelery to a minimum if you decide to wear something obvious (such as a dress or jacket) in animal print.

I think you have to wear animal prints in an African style of dress. Then it is not tacky it is cultural.

Animal prints aren't that tacky, however, they are hard to wear. I think the most important thing is to not overdo it! You should only wear one item with animal print and wear it with matte colors not exceeding two colors.

I don't know but today I was in my car (knowing it is Halloween) and saw a lady w/a leopard skirt, vest, boots and hat and I thought to myself "check that out, it has to be due to Halloween".
I think in moderation it could be okay but this was over the top tacky.

it could be both. animal prints can be very cool depending on how u wear them. if u do wear prints you should wear ones that are dark and blend in with the nuetral tones or earth tones. leapard prints are very tatseful and u can wear them. you can use it for the bottom of your jean skirt or wear them as a headband, scarf, or wear them around your wrists or as a belt.
