For example the Government of Canada is gc.ca the government of the uk is gov.uk the government of Australia is gov.au and using the internationally agreed address protocol the US should be .gov.us but in the US they just use .gov. Similarily for commercial sites, e.g. bbc.co.uk but in the US it is cnn.com instead of the proper protocol of cnn.co.us. It seems as in many areas the US just ignore the international rules and feel they are above everyone else.

Personally I agree with you, and I look with disgust at the arrogant US bastards who say it is ours and screw you even though we sign an agreement we can do whatever the hell we like. Has echoes of Geneva to me, don't torture us that is against the law but we can torture you.

The US invented the internet, other countries are merely guests. Same thing with country calling code, our code is 1 eg, 1-800 because we were the first country to use it.
I'd say that it's arrogant for people to get angry of the US using the internet as it wants to, while other countries are merely guests and had no part in the initial development.

Just happened that the Internet originated here in our country, we don't need any code, it's ours, everybody else has to come here and ask for their codes and pay us to use it, we don't ignore any rules, we own the Internet...

Quite the opposite. I suspect that these other countries are happy to affix their own codes to domain names.
