A mixture.

A material that can take water and hold it is an hygroscopic material.

A "mixture" is a combination of two substances that do not react chemically.

A "compound" is the result of a chemical reaction between two or more elements.

I'm not sure about the water question. It could be hydrates, but that means two different things in organic vs inorganic chemistry. Try the Wikipedia site, it has a lot of information.

Two or more substances that are mixed together but do not mix, are immiscible (substances are incapable of mixing)....a hydrate is a substance that can contain water....it also has the ability to loose what if heated.

I hope this helps =)

if the two liquids do not make one solution then you have an emulsion

An emulsion is a mixture of two immiscible (unblendable) substances
