I think that they are not strict enough, no offense. I believe that if we had harsher laws when it comes down to DUI/DWI, not too many people will drink or get high and drive. You might not have been drunk or so you think, but what if you were extremely drunk and behind the wheel and get into a major accident. Like that boy from Long Island who is now facing 25 to life. Do I believe the judge should use him as an example? yes. If you look it up, you will see the video of him driving on the opposite side of traffic on the highway. Everyone knows someone who had died b/c of someone's inconsideration.
You should've hired a lawyer. Courts are easier on you when its a first offense. However, that can't be expunged, so once its on your record its there for good.

Maybe for you it is still safe to have .08 in your blood. But for some, that is too much to not be a danger to other drivers. They can't make DUI laws for people who can hold their alcohol and those who can't. It would be too hard to enforce, and would place too much burden-of-proof on the state in pursuing DUI cases. If people drive drunk (meaning such that they are endangering others) then obviously they are infringing on the rights of others to be safe by placing those other drivers safety at undue risk. Scientific studies are done, and it is determined that .08 is the level at which a non-drinker becomes unable to safely operate a vehicle.

No they aren't. For every one person that think they can handle their liquor and get home safe, there's three others that think the same thing and kill someone innocent. Next time you think they're too strict, go to a MADD meeting, or talk to a family that lost a loved one to drunk driving. If information on seeing a five year old in a coffin because some guy wanted to drive the 2 blocks home and swerved into lights doesn't get to you, then I don't know what will.

No they are not too strict. It is ridiculous to think that the Courts created a fine system just because they love collecting all of that revenue. Just maybe the Courts are trying to prevent innocent people from dying from the selfishness and arrogance of others who think they have superman powers which makes them drive so much better when they've had a few. Obviously the punishment does not fit the crime if people are still willing to chance it everyday of the week.

I think drinking ONE beer & driving is irresponsible. I do NOT think DUI laws are too strict, I think they should be harsher in fact. Many ppl get off too easy, for instance my Uncle has been convicted FIVE times but b.c they are more than 7 yrs apart he is not considered habitual!! WHAT A JOKE! He will kill someone one of these days, & then everyone will say "why didn't they do something about him before?"

The courts love the revenue they collect. To me there is no point in having a B.A.C like .08. I know from experience.I didn't care if the law was .01 or 10.0 i drove anyway. It is all about the money.

Drunk driving killed nearly 17,000 people in the USA last year. So your suggestion of allowing people to be more buzzed while driving is pretty stupid.
A better idea would be to increase affordable public transport options to there is no need to drive impaired.
