Gerbils that are not from the same litter generally do not do well together. Males do not always do well together even when together from very young. I would not recommend housing to gerbils new to each other together.

If you must, intro in the tub but also, Id house them separe for awhile. Then, after a bit, maybe put some used litter from one cage to the cage both will use. A divided method of introduction is also sometimes successful. Theya re in the same cage, but there is a barrier so they cannot get at each other.

I would not risk it if they were my gerbils. If you try it, be aware for any fighting (serious fighing not playfighting will mean balls of fur, rollng around, squeals, blood). Good luck.

Though your idea and plan in the tub sounds like the perfect plan, I just think that you may not really know what will happen until you try. they are gerbils and they have there own way to communicate, so there is nothing wrong with getting another one just leave the possiblity open they may not like each other. Good Luck!!!

If they are males, they will fight, females usually are a little better, but you have the right idea, just keep an eye on them, see what happens mostly gerbils are social creatures.
If one is a male or female be prepared for babies in a couple of weeks..:-)
If they fight and one or other loses the end of a tail, don't worry, this is a defence mech. and it can grow back.

In my experience, 2 males are ok together as long as there are no females involved. Once you start bringing a family into the picture, there's more aggresion.

That sounds better than finding half a gerbil if you don't.
