No. different.
And Japanese don't call themselves as "race". They say "We are Japanese people".
There is another name "Yamato race" for Japanese. However, this name is little old-fashioned and seldom to hear this on TV and radio today.
Maybe they know most part of their primitive ancestor came from the surrounding countries, such as Russia, China, Korea and from the islands inf the pacific oceans.
But if you would say English, Dutch, French and German are the same white race, maybe they are also same. but it is little weired, isn't it?

The most widely used human racial categories are based on visible traits (especially skin color, facial features and hair texture), genes, and self-identification. Between Koran and Japanese, they can almost perfectly tell who is Korean, and who is Japanese. They can see the difference between Korean and Japanese. But, most likey, westerners cannot see differences among Asian. So, depending on location, language and food custom, facial and body feature are different.
