DO NOT buy a goldfish! DO NOT put him in a ONE gallon tank! that is absolutely ridiculous! goldfish can grow up to a foot and a half and live for 30+ years if kept properly. one gallon is NOT the proper housing for one of those guys. DO NOT CONSIDER A GOLDFISH!
get a betta fish. they last 2 or more years. bettas and guppies are your ONLY choice for a one gallon tank. THE ONLY CHOICE.
guppies only live for about 2 years also, but the breed like crazy.

I don't want to cut and paste, but I'll write a few out which I have and then direct you to a very good web site, which I find very handy to keep when stocking up my aquariums :) because I want to keep fish which I can watch in the years to come.
Angelfish 10+ years
Bala (silver shark) 10 years
Clown Loaches 15+ years
Black Widow Tetra 5 years
Blue Gourami 4 years
Bronze Cory 5 years
Discus 10 - 18 years
Silver Dollar 10+ years
Koi Carb can out live their owners, going on to be 90 + years.
I wouldn't suggest you placing any of these fish in a 1 gallon tank though, stick to your gold fish that not mentioned by anyone, can live to be over 30 years, none of this three year crap, but you need the time, dedication and after a while a bigger tank. Danioes and White Cloud Minoes do 5 - 10 years is looked after. Their a small top dwelling fish, if in a committee, but will swim all over the tank if alone with no predator species.

The problem with one gallon tanks is that its almost impossible to find a filter for a one gallon tank, henceforth, knocking off most types of small fish for consideration. The only species that can survive in an unfiltered one gallon tank is in fact a beta, however you could also get a goldfish or a very small koi, but they will outgrow your tank. A beta or a snail would be my suggestion, also why dont you fork up the extra 15 dollars and just get a ten gallon tank? If would open your door far more. Good luck.

Like what myself and a few others answered on your last question, it would have to be a betta. That is the only fish that stands a chance at surviving in that tiny 1 gallon tank.
If you want to keep something different either because you don't like bettas or you just don't want one then get a bigger tank. Even a 10 gallon tank, that you can usually get for under $10 at almost any store that sells them, would allow you to have so many other types of fish. You will also need a filter and you can get one of them for around $15 for a 10 gallon tank.
Goldfish need a minimum of 10 gallons each so hopefully you wouldn't think about torturing it in a 1 gallon.

The only thing you can keep in a one gallon tank is one regular gold fish. They live to be about 15 years old if you maintain a good healthy environment. You will need to change the water in the tank once a week and you can get information from the library on gold fish and tank maintenance. You will have to limit the amount of food you give the fish too. You will want to feed it something almost every time you look at it. But resist and only feed a little flake food once every other day...Your local pet shop can also help you but remember they are in the business of selling. So always check out the library or the Internet for information on fish and tank maintenance...Good luck

contained in the aquarium, Goldfish and Kois are prevalent to stay quite lengthy. i imagine the list for Kois is about 60 yrs easy. in spite of the indisputable fact that Goldfish and Kois are prevalent to stay about 30yrs typical. contained in the open waters, Sturgeons are prevalent to stay the longest. one hundred yrs ids not uncommon for them. apart from those, in aquariums, catfish and loaches are prevalent to stay longer extremely than different fish.

What ashley said is saltwater fish and you can find them at petco or petsmart, but goldfish live up to 3 years... these fish live that long with proper care. Ask about the life-expand from the workers about the fish there.
