Imagine what you pay per gallon for your favorite perfume! People complain about the price of gas because it has increased dramatically in such a short time... When I started driving 1971 gas was about 27 cents a gallon....The oil embargo in 1973 brought prices to over $1/gallon and gas was rationed. You could buy it only every other day depending on the last digit on your licence plate (If I remember correctly) and even then you had to wait in lines (sometimes for an hour or more) just to get to the pump. So, in 33 years the price of gas rose from 27 cents to $2.15 and it is still the same thing..gas! Additionally, a gallon of milk will last a week.. A gallon of gas lasts on average about 23 miles so traveling at 60 miles per hour, a gallon of gas lasts just over 1/2 hour... Hope that this helps explain it for you...
By the way, when I was in my teens and if someone said to a banker that they were going to bottle water and sell it they would have been laughed out of the bank! "Who would be stupid enough to pay money for water!"

It costs someone, on average, about $25-$35 to fill up their tank and it lasts for maybe a week. A gallon of milk at around $2.49 can last for a week itself. Not a big loss.

I use more gas than water or milk. And why in the world would you buy bottled water?? Get it out of the sink. If your water was contaiminated I understand, but really. And I don't buy 20 gallons worth of milk.

Because usually someone buys about 20 gallons of gasoline per week. Most average Americans do not buy 20 gallons of milk or water per week so it is cheaper.

Some people just have nothing better to do but complain about gas so they can be just like everyone else. People should just be glad that the gas is not higher that what they are paying now. Things could always be worse.

All the previous answers are on the money but one thing has not been mentioned our illustrious government has taxed gasoline to death if you look at the pumps over 1/3 of your price goes into taxes and that pisses people off, the only items that are taxed as much or more are cigarettes and alcohol.

Because people think it is their right to consume as much gasoline as they want for next to nothing. I'm sorry, but of you want to be somewhere 60 miles away in an hour, you better expect to pay for it. Don't like it? Do it without gas.
