It means you will likely be laid off after the holidays and after-holiday sales. But, usually you can ask to stay on as an full-time/part-time employee after the holidays especially since some workers decide to leave at that point. I would do a REALLY good job for them during the holiday season to impress them so that they would want you as a regular employee, of course, I would continue looking for a more stable job in the meantime as a back-up.

Hiring for the Holiday means just that... Once the holiday is over then your job is over... That is not to say that your employment with them may not continue... If you are very good and well liked, they just may ask you to stay on if a position is open.... Holiday employment is a great way to get your foot in the door and prove yourself!

If you work for Sears in any department that pays minimum wage PLUS commission, you can make a lot of money.
Examples: vacuum cleaners, appliances etc.
Vacuum cleaners is easiest job to learn. Just decide which one machine is the best for the money and recommend that one to everyone.
Second best is microwaves and cookware.
Another good holiday job is Radio Shack, but too many products to learn about.

Usually they let you go after the holiday rush, which may be in January to accomodate the New Year's sale and returns.
The hours more likely will be part-time because the employer wants to avoid paying benefits. They should set the hours according to your availability.

Most holiday jobs are what they call "Seasonal". Basically they let you go after the season ends. It is stricktly part-time work and you usually have to sign paperwork at the time of hire that states this.

it is just that. but i have found out, that if you have a real good job performance. They usually keep you on the payroll. But they can still let you go, It for the most part is up to them.
