Though not a window repair man I have installed my own in my rental house. I think ALum frames are stronger but mostly you get what you pay for in windows. SInce my house is just a rental property I bought the cheaper ones and installed myself. If you have any construction abailities at all you'lll be fine, I had never installed a window in my life and I did just fine.

In conversation with a window person last week I was told that the heat conductivity of aluminum is 1600 times that of vinyl. Don't even consider aluminum unless you reside in a climate in which heat loss or gain is of no consequence in maintaining comfortable interior temp. Anderson and Pella are excellent, but you needn't spend that much for a good performing durable replacement window.

go with vinyl, metal will conduct heat and cold...in vinyl go with one that is 3/4 glass and solid weld.....lowes windows would be a middle of the road window.......Anderson ur just paying for the name when it comes to vinyl........

i'm assuming u live up north ,vinyl is the new trend, it doesn't rot or errode with time. and all the manufacturers r good so go for the best price and the company that makes u feel they are being honest. we had to get a new roof and my husband finally picked the 3rd company because he felt the guy was honest.
