I was appalled! He owes all service people current and past a HUGE apology. I don't care what he was trying to say.....what came out was just plain WRONG!

Political train wreck. The more he talks about it, the worse it gets. His "clarification" of what he said was still back-handed.
Anyone who believed this man would've made a better President should take a good look.
I am not suggesting he make an apology for what he says about the President, although he certainly needs to make an apology to the troops that may have been offended at the remark.
Is there any wonder that the military is made up of more Republicans than Democrats?
"If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy," Kerry said.
...but hasnt he been doing this since Vietnam?

I don't think he meant that at all. Those who cannot get loans or grant for college are forced to either forget about school or use the option to go into the service in order to use the GI Bill to pay for college when they come out. This administration has cut aid to education and had reduced "Pell" grants, both to increase the poor recruiting the military is going thru. The lack of a formal education does not mean a person is dumb and shame on you for saying that.

Think about this - most of the soldiers in Iraq come from poor counties in the US. Many joined seeking free education or benefits. Instead, they have been sent to the newest killing field - Iraq.
Kerry's comments were meant to help the GOP and re-energize those who are questioning US involvement in Iraq. Kerry and Bush are elitists and they speak the same language - plain and simple. Both of them are willing to throw the US soldier under the bus for their own geopolitical agenda.

You're right, it was a really dumb thing to say, especially at this time.
I won't try to defend what he said or try to spin what he might have meant.
But I also have to say that anyone who has any other options in life could not possibly be the sharpest tool in the shed if they join the military when there's a smirking chimp in the White House.

I think it is despicable that anyone who aspires to be president of this great country would insult our brave men and women in combat who lay their lives on the line to protect us from terrorists. I hope he apologizes for their sake, but I won't hold my breath because Kerry is and always was an arrogant dog.I just read an article about his funding of a huge anti war protest designed to hurt the republicans. He is paying people to go to the cemeteries to take advantage of the grieving families of brave soldiers who have died in Iraq in their most vulnerable moments and recruit them for his protest. What a Traitor!

You don't understand, when a Republican says something bad, it's because they are evil and said it to hurt people. But when a Democrat does or says something dumb or bad, well it was taken out of context, or it was a joke or it's not really what they meant, or they were just trying to illustrate a point, or some other good reason, because all Democrats have good intentions and care about people. I'm suprised you even have to ask a question like that. He must have meant well.

I think he blew the election in '04 and he's doing his best to blow it for his party in '06. The guy is clearly an idiot. IF (and I don't believe it for a second) he was really referring to Bush or it was a joke gone bad (as he has said)....then who is really stupid? Didn't he know what his comments sounded like?

IF IF IF that is what he meant and I was (am not) a soldier in Iraq, I would rather be insulted any day rather than be shot at. Kerry fought in a war already and knows how it sucks. Don't think for a minute he is disparaging our troops--he'd rather have them home.
