I majored in Anthropology in college with a minor in history...it is a great field but if I had to do it all over again I would have gone into the medical field...there is a much greater demand and job stability than in my chosen major I found out the hard way. In this field it really is necessary that you have a PHD to have success at all...you can do it but it is hard without it.

Retired Professor of History from a major university.
It seems to me to be very imprudent to select a major before you have done at least one survey course in that field. Of course it works sometimes, but it is not the surrest way to be content in life.
The people whom I know who hate their jobs decided (or their parents decided for them) on a major for some practical reason: income, job security, mobility, prestige or advice from others.
Even if you cannot decide after your freshman year, you are still better off than if you arbitrarily chose a life course you may regreat.
If you go through the menu, something will hit you, and you'll know that this is what you are; you are this matieral.
In our family, everyone was an attorney. I was laughed at for my imprudence, but I am the one who has not had a stroke nor a heart attack, and who still enjoys reading, researching and writing in a field I did not choose until I was nearly done with undergrad.
But I must confess that I married a beautiful lawyer and am married her still.

For someone who has a hate relationship with Math, I must be crazy by taking up Financial Management. I've thought about it for quite some time and realized that maybe I wanted to prove to myself that I can make it still. It did, but now, my first love is calling me: Creative Arts.
To me, choosing a different path has its own set of advantages. It taught me to work hard more, patience and endurance. Yes, it might have been easier if what I was doing was my passion, but then again, no regrets still. :)
